History Will Judge You

There is much being written about the events of January 6th 2021 in Washington DC, USA. Something which maybe a nadir or simply part of first act in another country’s National Tragedy. That remains to be seen. We do know there was a massive security breech, we do know four people are dead and we do know Trump was the instigator by calling on a febrile emotional crowd to march.

I expected nothing else from Trump and will not waste anymore of my efforts on that bag on vanities, a mere marionette for the intolerances and fears of a substantial portion of the population, a symptom.

My ire is upon Vice President Pence

Whereas Trump is a blundering oaf, a Stephen King style clown who decided one day to run for president Pence is a professional politician and should be well versed in what can go wrong when you start to play fast and loose with the emotions of a population already riven asunder by four years of incompetent management of the National Mood. Pence was in the second most important post in the Administrative side of government and had a duty to the well being of the nation as a whole. In this farcical tail end of the most disastrous tenure since the 1850s he should have steeled himself and said ‘Enough’. Instead he played a tawdry long game hoping to position himself with the folk who put Trump in. As with the creature who sat in the Whitehouse he showed no loyalty to the USA has a whole.

And now there is a death toll of FOUR.

And will it end there?

You will pardon me as one who watched a part of the UK tear itself apart for nearly thirty years if I have doubts on that score.

Vice President Pence. Sir. By your inaction to take the heat out of the situation you have blood on your hands too. At least FOUR.

  1. Dear Roger,

Unfortunately, I doubt that it will end there.

I have given a very stern and stark warning about what the end result will be in the final paragraph of my post entitled “Misquotation Pandemic and Disinformation Polemic: Mind Pollution by Viral Falsity” at https://soundeagle.wordpress.com/2020/12/19/misquotation-pandemic-and-disinformation-polemic-mind-pollution-by-viral-falsity/

It is all a big mess!

By the way, Happy New Year to you! May you find 2021 very much to your liking and highly conducive to your writing, thinking and blogging!

    • Firstly the better bit. Thanks for your kinds words and best wishes. And I will be thinking of you folk in the USA. ‘Best Wishes’ seems a bit trite at this stage.
I fear I have to agree.
There was so much being written about this disaster and focusing on Trump, who we know is a class idiot and in my opinion nothing put a marionette poster boy for the Right, tug his strings and he’ll chirp for them.
It seemed that Pence being a professional should get a thwack upside his head too.
      Take care you folk.
I hope the demon that feasted so well on Ulster is seen off.

      • Wow, Roger, that was quite a comment you have submitted to my said post! Thank you very much for your feedback.

I hope that you are doing reasonably well in health. Surviving a pandemic is about more than physical health, for it is also about mental health. One wonders how much longer we have to contend with and adapt to the situation, as the vaccines are still unavailable to many folks, and social distancing is making people lonly or isolated. Having some good hobbies and pastimes are essential in maintaining good spirit. Having people to love and support you is also important, and I hope that you will continue to have good company during such a difficult phase of your life.

As we maintain spatial distancing and stay home to avoid contracting and spreading the coronavirus, please kindly allow me the pleasure to entertain you with a bespoke poem and music recently published in the multimedia post entitled 🎼🎹—THE—🎹—LAST—🎹—RAG—🎹🎵🎶, where the featured composition for solo piano can be enjoyed and studied in multiple formats available to you as the audio playbacks, the video captures of score with music, and the gallery of printable score sheets, which will be very helpful and illuminating to you if you can also read music.

The said post is available for you to enjoy at http://soundeagle.wordpress.com/2020/04/12/the-last-rag/

Since music can be an essential part of the process of sustainability, wellbeing, healing and even social change and spiritual awakening, may my music and poem in the said post bring you and your family some creative “distractions” or “diversions” amidst the disruptions and woes engendered by the pandemic.

I shall be very curious about your reactions towards and thoughts about my original piano music there.

Happy listening and happy winter to you and your family!

      • I must check that one out as I do enjoy music of all sorts and tend to write to it.
The pandemic is of course a trial to us all. One which was bound to happen at some stage, Nature being the one which has the last say in all matters, whether we like it or not. Check the fossil records I always say.
It has add an odd benefit to me. I being retired, in that there’s this ‘Fantasy’ tale which has been a project for many years in many guises. It finally took an acceptable shape a couple of years back and appeared Vol I & Vol II on Kindle Annnnd finally Vol III (awaiting its cover). In the meanwhile it seemed Vol I & Vol II ‘could be better’ so the definitive version of Vol I is nearly completed.
All this industry was spurred on by the thought I want this trilogy settled just in case Covid does catch up with me- not morbid just practical and determined…
Ahh well chores beckon, must move.
        Will check that post out.
        See ya.

  2. Roger, well said. It broke my heart to see how low this outgoing president brought us, but democracy held serve. Yesterday was so over the top it will go down in infamy, but it also will be the day the political career of Donald J. Trump ended. He will retain his ardent supporters and I worry about what could happen, but the many Republican legislators who kept their disdain for him silent to garner votes have jumped ship or are about to. Just last night, several Trump staff resigned at the events of the day. What happened yesterday is on the shoulders of the outgoing president and his sycophants. Mind you Trumpism remains a danger, but you can stick a fork in its namesake as a future candidate. Keith

    • Thank you Keith.
Whereas it would be satisfying to see him suffer, there are those who were still backing his tirades until yesterday. And they are as culpable.
I likened this to Jeff as being a Pearl Harbour; it was avoidable. Now there must be a reckoning.

      • Roger, so true and I worry about his ardent fans. But, politicians will jump a sinking ship and their Trump asset has become an anchor. Keith

      • I would refer to the last days of Hitler as his closest such as Goring and Himmler cut and run and even tried to say they were in charge. It did not do them a lot of good.
Whereas one should not be so very snarky it has to be mused, will Trump be attending the funerals of his loyal followers who died yesterday?

    • Dear Keith and Roger,

It is futile to reason with such folks as Trump’s supporters. Perhaps only when the country truly becomes autocratic or fascist will they wake up, but then it will be too late.

It is all quite a big mess in danger of getting bigger still. Even a global pandemic still cannot unite folks in the USA and wake them up. Perhaps it will take an even bigger crisis to do so, such as a series of climate change disasters.

      • ‘These are times which test folks’ souls’ (updated version).
The USA over the past decades has been drawn to that crossroads which all nations of any size face; the question or spectre of division and instability. In History this is not new, it is a recurrence.
This is why I maintain Trump himself is a mere part of a far larger drama.
One day this rich egotist decided he wanted to play at president. Being a creature of an overindulgent media (ie freaks are fun and good copy) he was known and his childish, vacuous rantings were picked up by a sizeable portions of the population who collectively said ‘We can use this fellow. Encourage him,’
Trump thought he was leading them, truth be known he was no more than the manifestation of their own communal anger and fear, and he brought into it. And they loved it.
When he is gone there will be others. The question is will the grouping that made him stay together or fracture in recriminations over the 2016 election result? Will consensus slowly return?
Or has the matter gone too far? Are we witnessing the gradual separation of the USA into individual nations or regions?
This is where the concept of The Strong Leader hovers, The Uniter. The problem there for the average American used to a lighter form of government than many nations is that The Strong Leader, particularly one dedicated to bringing a nation back together does not rely on just smiles and soaring rhetoric backing an economic package. Folk get trod on, you may applaud some of the treading but generally it is universal.
Then you ask yourself. Is this the price we must pay for the suppression of communal strife, The Fear Merchants and the Hate Mongers?
        Testing times. Testing times.
        Take care.

  3. Thank you, Roger … i always value your perspective and I think you are spot on with this. I spoke to a good friend yesterday evening, and his assessment was “Well, it’s over now, they just needed to blow off some steam and that’ll be the last of it.” In my gut, in my heart, I think he is dead wrong. It’s not over by a long shot … I fear for the next 13 days, as well as the 20th. Will there be an assassination attempt on the 20th? I wouldn’t put it past the ignorant fools. Why weren’t the insurgents arrested and taken to jail? And the other entity who shares blame is the media, who have for the entire term of his office refused to outright condemn him, and who have given him his fondest wish … his picture on the front page every day and his every word repeated over and over ad nauseam. They helped create this monster, as did his sycophants, enablers, family, and others.

    • Thank you Jill.
Sadly when emotions run deep and are fed by a steady diet of division there is no blowing off of steam. Many of that mob will be pleased with themselves and revel in the deed. There will now be those on the opposite side who will think ‘If it’s getting that hot maybe I should arm myself too, to protect my home and family’ and some will be thinking beyond that.
I agree about the media, there were two mistakes by the anti-Trump folk:
      1. As you say putting that smug creature’s face up every day either smiling or looking tough and not showing many unflattering pictures. Also they knew Trump made ‘good copy’ and ‘good copy’ sells.
      2. Another mistake was making fun of him. There was nothing humorous about Trump’s tenure. Savage satire yes, but jokes on SNL- didn’t work, diluted the threat which this marionette posed, they didn’t seem to work out just who was pulling his strings, and they will be looking for a new marionette.

      • You are spot on, Roger. Just an hour or so ago, I saw a comment to one of Padre Steve’s posts where the commenter said that in light of the events on Wednesday, he’s planning to ‘arm’ himself. More guns is NOT the answer here!!! When will people ever learn??? Sigh.

You’re right on both counts, and I, too, have been guilty of making fun of him, but today I find nothing comic about him. He’s gone from being a clown in my book, to a monster. Worse yet, he has turned others into monsters, like the thousands that terrorized the Capitol on Wednesday, and those who support them. I read that some 45% of Republicans applaud what happened on Wednesday … fools and idiots. 😥

      • Sadly Jill people will not learn and there comes a stage where a tipping point is reached. Telling Hitler he was a being wrong and should stop it did not work. Sure that stage is an indication of failure of foresight and judgement, but….
Put it this way, if I was in the USA I’d be ‘packing’ now. Défense of me and mine. Let any a-hole come near me trying that BS they did in Washington, I noticed one picture of a cop in the building pointing a gun at an intruder and straight away the guy had his hands up, wasn’t expecting that was he?
Yeah 45% approve. And they were approving before Trump decided to play at being President. As I keep on saying. It’s been there for decades.

      • Sigh. If the day comes that the only way I can live is to carry a gun, then I shall simply choose not to live. Yes, they were always there, but I was apparently too stupid to see it. Sigh.

      • Hope that day never comes Jill. Hope now that Trump has shown himself to be the shallow idiot that he truly is and his supporters have gone too far the whole show will collapse in schism, finger pointing and name calling (Couldn’t happen a more deserving crew)

      • I would love to see this show shut down for good, but I fear that won’t happen anytime soon. I only hope it happens before hundreds are dead. Wasn’t the pandemic enough, for Pete’s sake??? Sigh.

  4. Now 5 victims Roger and I still bet he regrets nothing. He only regrets that which happens to him as the victim. I would be glad to see him removed from office by either Amendment 25 (does Pence have the stomach to be the bogeyman for the Trumpites) or by Impeachment, if it can be done quickly enough. That would put an end to his chances in 2024. Either way, I feel since the President is not above the law, and by then he will be a civilian again, he must be brought up on charges of sedition. One court where I don’t find the majority of US citizens will mind paying the cost.
    Hugs
