Since the 2021 Taliban take over of Afghanistan, many changes have been taking place in the country especially around women rights issues. After capturing power, Taliban replaced the Women’s ministry with the “Ministries of Prayer and Guidance and the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice.”
This move was highly criticized by international community and within Afghan population as it bode the return of the dark era the country had seen in its past. With the regulations put into place by this new ministry, women and girls have been rendered powerless and pushed out of the public spheres.
This ministry is notorious for its harsh implementation and hard lining interpretation of the Sharia law and has banned the girls return to schools and resorted barbaric punishments like amputations and executions to deter criminals.
