Just for Marketing and Giggles- The British Approach

shy-man-party

I’m…here because the author didn’t think his picture would be advantageous. He and I would like firstly to apologise if we are taking up any of your time, or appearing to be fearfully vulgar and forward, but there’s this book he’s written…Well actually re-written and re-written and thinks he has it right…

Of Patchwork Warriors Of Patchwork Warriors (Fourth Edition): (Being Vol.1 of the Precipice Dominions) eBook: Llewellyn, R J: Amazon.co.uk: Kindle Store

And as you can see, it is being sold on Amazon Kindle at 0.99 (in most currencies anyway)….

It’s one of those adventuresome Fantasy Books, which are so popular, only there’s not so much treachery and tragedy, and the central characters are quite nice, in so far as I can judge. I found Karlyn quite amusing.

And I have to go now…and do…something else, so I apologise if I have intruded on your time. Someone else will take over now.

In so far as this Fantasy Genre goes, well, I have to say, it has a certain charm, even if some of the humour was rather, shall we say, populist. Of course I wasn’t too sure about all those girls having so much of a say in the narrative, but there again ‘de rigueur’ as the saying goes. And of course it is very inexpensive, and this in itself begs the statement ‘What has one got to lose?’ (apart from 0.99 of course, but there again I received a free copy)Whimsey 6 I have to disagree with the flamboyant chap above. I thought the humour was rather classical British irony. Of course I doubt if this will travel well across the Atlantic. I also feel the book is far too optimistic and the characters excruciatingly pleasant (even that blonde haired girl was only brutal to those who deserved it), so it will certainly not do well in Britain. I fear it will be another well-meaning failure….as for selling at such a low price…..well that simply smacks of being vulgar. Shame really, there was potential there.

I’m a bit confused here. Was that guy trying to help sell the book. These Brits are so oblique. Is it any good? Anyone????

haughty response 2Yes, of course m’dear. If you like to read about a bevy of young ladies running about the countryside getting up to all sorts of high jinks and beating the stuffing out of a load of rotters who get their just deserts. And there some’s..well y’know…And it’s only 0.99

Oh, go on. Give it a try. I’m in it. And it’s only 0.99

Yeah….like….I’m hooked already….These Brits. No wonder the best ones end up working for the Dollar.

Self-publishing Musings: Amazon Kindle- Free Book Promotion.

So, having completed 4th Edition of

Of Patchwork Warriors

And thus onto Kindle I opted for the ‘Five Days’ free promotion. It’s a reasonable move if you are self-publishing, it’s only for a short time and increases your chances of folk picking up your book – after all….. ……………………………….’Free’

Laughing Guy

I checked this morning to see the results and found 17 folk had opted to download, stream, or whatever. That was nice. This would be a combination of those who knew it was coming (thanks guys) and those who assiduously check out Amazon Kindle for what’s interesting in the Free option, and why not? if I wasn’t such a perpetually lazy reader I would, because it’s one of my go-to options on Audible Books and Comixology.

If taking up the Kindle Self-Publishing path (Amazon like to elevate you to Independent Publishing; it sounds modestly corporate) and you do opt for the free promotion (any number from 1 to 5 days), bear in mind those who pick up the book on a whim. They have expressed an interest, and may well be voracious readers, however they may also have a  large collection of free books, which they have not quite got around to yet . I say this as one who had to list his Audible Books to listen to resulting from one pre-Christmas splurge of free and special offer audio books (£3 instead of £17.75…can’t miss that bargain!). And then set himself a serious programme of listening to all twenty of them. Take this into account if you are looking for reviews, that which was selected 2 years ago, may still not have been read.

For the self-independent publishing writer Amazon Kindle and the Free promotion probably works best with the by now traditional long-term Raising The Coming Book profile on other networks so that your audience is anticipating the release and will be willing to pounce in useful numbers, then (you hope) are enthused to write reviews and so start the cycle. One benefit of which, maybe that those who seek those free books decide to move yours up the reading list and (hopefully) write a review.

Thus, the summary: a useful system but only to be used in conjunction with other marketing efforts. Free promotion by itself will not win the day, unless of course you happen to be on good terms with the goddess  Fortuna.

Why I Love being a Blogger…

Cause of celebration

Like many of us, we began this blog because we needed a platform to tell the world we were writers and show off our books.

We didn’t have a clue when we started, stumbling around, making more mistakes than we want to remember now, but we have learned so much and still find new stuff to know all the time.

Along the way, so many things have tried to defeat us, like PowerPoint, Book Funnel and Mailerlite. And of course, marketing in all its many forms still presents an almost daily challenge! I sometimes wish I weren’t quite so stubborn, as there are days, I could admit defeat and walk away. But it hasn’t happened yet, and I doubt it ever will, fingers crossed!

Somehow, nine years have passed, and our humble blog now has over 5.000 followers!

It would take me forever to…
